News and Info
HHS launches new Portable Biocontainment Unit

The Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR) launched a new Portable Biocontainment Unit (PBCU) for high-consequence infectious disease patients. The PBCU is the first domestic resource for isolating and transporting patients with contagious infectious diseases, for example Ebola, to Regional Emerging Special Pathogen Treatment Centers (RESPTC).
The unit can be transported by air on a C-130 or L-100 aircraft to any U.S. airport or by ground via specialized trailer that can be pulled by a tractor or semi-truck. This allows for continuous treatment of patients isolated in the unit until they can receive more definitive care at a RESPTC hospital.
For more information about the PBCU visit: https://aspr.hhs.gov/Tranquil-Passport/.
ASPR Bulletin: Targeted Violence Towards Healthcare Facilities
The May 21, 2025, Healthcare and Public Health Sector Advisory Bulletin from HHS highlights the escalating threat of violence in healthcare settings, noting that nearly 75% of workplace assaults occur in this sector. It offers actionable recommendations for healthcare facilities, including strengthening security protocols, enhancing emergency preparedness, supporting workforce mental health, and promoting information sharing to better protect staff and patients.
Connecticut Environmental Justice Screening Tool

Connecticut EJ Screening Tool is an interactive resource that combines both community and data-driven approach that incorporates environmental burdens and demographic indicators. This map allows users to explore the environmental health and the conditions (socioeconomic and or other distinguishing community characteristics) within a specific region, town, city, and or entire state.
The data included in this map finalize into a score that allows users to understand the relationship between the community and environmental justice. Through the presentation of this information, citizens and policymakers alike can understand what communities are experiencing and form policies that reshape these matters.
