Hospital Highlight in the News
How Connecticut hospitals prepared for Sunday’s snowstorm
"...unlike schools, businesses, government buildings and houses of worship, the state's hospitals had to remain open, despite forecasts of a winter storm bringing 12 to 18 inches of snow to the state."
How did hospitals stay open? What plans did they have in place, and how did they execute to ensure that care was not interrupted? Nathaniel Rosenberg with CT Insider highlights the efforts made by hospitals across the state to remain open and provide lifesaving care.
Take the CT DPH Risk Assessment Survey
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR), and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) require Public Health Emergency Preparedness (PHEP) and Hospital Preparedness Program (HPP) recipients to conduct a Risk Assessment (RA)/Hazard Vulnerability Assessment (HVA) to inform public health and healthcare emergency preparedness priorities. The results of the RA are used by the Connecticut Department of Public Health (CT DPH) and federal preparedness partners to guide planning, resource allocation, and capability development.
To this end, CT DPH is conducting a risk assessment survey. This survey is open to all ESF-8 partners, and will remain open until February 20, 2026. The CT HCC encourages all our ESF-8 partners to take this survey to ensure CT DPH can accurately plan around your risks and needs.
Emerging Pathogens Update
The Region 1 Emerging Special Pathogens Treatment Center (RESPTC) newsletter was released on January 23, 2026, and contains information about emerging pathogens of relevance to our partners (such as the New World Screwworm), upcoming webinar opportunities about extreme weather and vulnerable populations, and more!
We encourage all of our partners to sign up for this newsletter to stay up to date on the latest in special pathogens.
Region 1 Pediatric Inpatient Bed Map
In collaboration with the Region 1 Pediatric Working Group, The Region 1 Regional Disaster Health Response System (RDHRS) has created a Pediatric Inpatient Bed Map. This map has been developed to provide an overview of pediatric inpatient beds and availability of pediatric intensive care unit capability across hospitals in Region 1.
