This awareness level Public Information Officer (PIO) course is designed for local public health personnel, healthcare organization leaders, and their community partners and stakeholders. Essential resources for the PIO, along with skills and strategies for success will be shared with participants. It is designed for those who may be new to, or inexperienced in the role of public information, or for those who may have the role of PIO as a secondary function. Topics such as partnering with the media, verifying information, and social media strategies will be covered. Also, the principles of Crisis Emergency Risk Communication (CERC) and the importance of key messaging will be discussed.
